Lab Types
Every lab in Rogue Arena has an environment type — shown as a labeled badge on the scenario. The type doesn’t change the underlying infrastructure; the same machines and network get deployed either way. What it changes is what you can see and do from the start: whether the target machines are visible, and whether tasks are open or revealed as you progress. The type is defined by the scenario’s author during Lab Creation.
At a glance
Section titled “At a glance”| Type | Best for | Victim VM visibility | Tasks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mini Lab | Open exploration, tool testing, demos | All VMs visible | All unlocked from the start |
| Scenario | Guided, discovery-driven challenges | Locked until you complete the scenario | Locked; unlock as you progress |
Mini Lab
Section titled “Mini Lab”Everything is open. All VMs are visible — including the target (victim) machines — and every task is unlocked from the start. Nothing is gated behind progress. This is the sandbox mode: the whole environment is in front of you the moment it comes up, so it’s the right fit for free-form exploration, testing tools, quick demos, or practicing against a network you already understand.
Scenario
Section titled “Scenario”A guided challenge. Victim VM visibility is locked until you complete the scenario, and tasks are typically locked, unlocking one step at a time as you progress. You earn visibility and next steps by doing the work, which keeps the experience discovery-driven rather than laid out in advance. Best for red-team-style challenges and progressive labs where the reveal is part of the point.
